Today we chat with Elizabeth Phillipson-Weiner, composer, producer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. She is the composer and producer of the NAACP Image Award Nominated short film, Gets Good Light and is obsessed with her adorable dog, Schuyler. We discuss the path (or lack there of) to a creative career, implicit bias in filmmaking, composing, and the music world, how to believe in yourself when you have no experience, and the joys of cutting out the shitty middle man.

Heightening the dramatic intensity of Gets Good Light is Phillipson-Weiner’s soundtrack, dominated by an often jarring mix of electronics and acoustic elements—piano, flute, ukulele and, most predominantly, the cello—that sonically convey the hostile environment.

The Anyway Campaign For Cystic Fibrosis
Elizabeth channeled her experiences with chronic illness into a song called “Anyway”, an anthem to encourage herself and others, a motivation to rise above illness and fear. She partnered with Emily's Entourage to produce a music video campaign using her song that will raise critical Cystic Fibrosis awareness and funds.

Elizabeth and her band performed at First Live Coffee House on October 21st to promote the upcoming release of her debut EP.
Elizabeth's music at The American Theatre Wing Centennial Gala
Elizabeth was so excited to work with "Dear Evan Hansen" musical director, Ben Cohn, on the American Theatre Wing Centennial Gala on September 18, 2017. She assisted Ben in the music department and created the backing tracks for the homage to the Stage Door Canteen during cocktail hour. Read about the gala here.
